Time travel in small corner of Paraty…
At three in Rio de Janeiro road (260 km), a small gem of colonial and Brazilian Baroque architecture * quaint appears before our very eyes, surrounded by green hills, located in the extreme south of the State on the Costa Verde.

This small fishing port founded in the seventeenth century which passed many boats carrying gold bound for Portugal, became a city not to be missed during a trip to Brazil. colonial mansions, baroque churches, carriages, and extremely narrow cobblestone streets, Paraty is almost bygone allure, reflection of an era now past. Long remained “secret”, there was no way to access it until 1950.
Life is quiet, far from the rhythm of Rio. A true bubble of oxygen to recover. And a pleasure to stroll through its streets whose center is entirely pedestrianized, offering a hop time.
Shops, crafts, bels hotels, Paraty is however not given. At carnival time, the institution are stormed, you have to book well in advance to book a room in a pousada.
Between roaming the streets, discover art galleries, shop, drink and breathe the atmosphere of the night (bustling city to the sound of samba to dusk), Paraty is a true small paradise, a destination to disconnect and blow.
At the port, it offers cruise boat for a day in the Bay of Paraty between islands and beaches, stopping on sites suitable for swimming. Including meals and caipirinhas optional.
I only stayed unfortunately only 2 days. I have not had time to visit the area that offer natural beauty and idyllic beaches in 30 minutes by car, 1 hour by bus (€ 3 return). The most acclaimed beach: Praia do Cachadaço.

To see: the beaches (Praia do Cachadaço), blocks lined with palm trees, coconut palms, pristine beaches (rculture, disconnection, evasion, colonial city, inquire at the port for boat trips). 100 km see Ilha Grande, an island surrounded by many beautiful beaches. What to do: boat cruise in the Bay of Paraty, stroll the city, dance to samba until the morning, shopping, cocktail Tips: the pavements are slippery. Not always practical to walk tong ....

Access to Paraty by bus from Rio de Janeiro (4:30), or Sao Paulo via Angra Dos Reis. About 20 euros one way. Check with the companies at the bus station.
