Hotel At The Rocks, Ngapali (Burma)

An authentic hotel far from shops to be quiet …

Despite mixed reviews on the booking sites, I wanted to stay here.
Its architecture, woodwork, simplicity, more “natural” environment among palm trees attracted me more than most hotels Ngapali too “Westernized.”
This beach resort in Myanmar has the distinction of being occupied mostly by upscale hotels from 3 to 5 star. No youth hostel or guesthouse, the first price for a standard room is 50 euros. A dear price for Asia.
Anyway, Ngapali does not attract backpakers nor penniless travelers. And because no establishment “festive”, bars or clubs in this resort …

♦ Hotel At The Rocks ♦

Upon arrival at the airport, we are supported: luggage transport by taxi. It is true that the hotel is 6 minutes, but it’s always nice. In addition, our flight 25 minutes in advance (we left early probably because we were only 4 in the plane …), not significant to see that they are informed of the time of our arrival.

The room is ready at 13:00 with the surprise: it is upgraded. Villa facing the sea!

Despite the high season, there were few guests at the hotel. But it was the case of all institutions in Ngapali Beach. I felt that there were more hotel staff than guests on the almost deserted beach. An ideal base to rest after a 15 days tour …

♦ Room: Deluxe Room with ocean view ♦

The room is spacious, high ceiling: the dream!
The bathroom is supplied accessories: bathrobe, slippers, bath products (soap, gel), pain, tooth brush, file, cotton, razors …
There is even an outdoor shower in the bathroom but closed: thus removing the sand without putting everywhere in the room or in the bathtub.
Side living room: tea bags and coffee.

At 19h, evening service: a man comes cleaner room. He removes the sand from the bed and floor. And offers us a jar of cookies every night.
He folds the cloth on the side to make our bed. He picks up the curtains.

♦ The service ♦

At breakfast, service at attention. Pulling your chair, presents the menu as if you were in the restaurant. You are entitled to a fruit juice, tea or coffee to see the 2 eggs, bread butter jam. If our fruit salads is not finished, it brings us illico on a tray in our room.
During our stay, the wifi was not working. The manager lent us his phone to share its WiFi connection.
Too bad the pool was still under construction. No noise side work, but a frustration to see before our eyes without being able to enjoy …

They served and scrutinize your every move. It is quite disturbing to be watched almost as much.
Back to the room: the bed is already folded, new robes, emptied and replace missing accessories garbage.

One evening we returned late, the staff stood outside the hotel concerned about our absence and asked if everything was fine. He even was driving us to our room at night so we were hesitant.

In short impeccable service. 4 stars. Always smiling and on the lookout for our requests.

♦ My opinion ♦

I recommend if you are looking for quiet. I’m well rested and loved the evening be on my terrace and admire the view near the rocks of the beach.
However, if you prefer to be close to a sandy beach (facing the beach to the rocks, but 8 minutes walk from the sandy beach) or the shops and restaurants, this hotel is not for you. It is 25 minutes by bike.
But know that there are restaurants nearby and the Hilton Hotel in 5 minutes.
